You don’t always have to visit a casino to have the full casino experience. Check out our list of some of the best free, downloadable virtual casinos and casino games from the golden good old days of DOS through to PC’s and smartphones.
For DOS
DOS Games can be played on a Windows or Linux-PC by using an emulator – one of the best options remains DOSBox.
Casino Games for DOS (1982) is very basic, though hailed as one of the first casino-simulation games of its kind for the computer. This one features slots, blackjack and poker.
Caesar’s Palace (1990) is a follow-up to the much-earlier game House of Cards and features poker, blackjack and baccarat.
4 Queens Computer Casino (1992) by Applications Plus Inc. took the idea of a virtual casino a little further, including games like video poker, craps and slots among other games.
Arcade Fruit Machine for DOS (1992) gives players the option of several slot machines, and we’d almost go as far as to say that it was the defining DOS game for slot-fanatics
Crazy Nick’s Leisure Suit Larry Casino (1992) is a casino-themed addition to the popular Leisure Suit Larry franchise, which some might remember – fondly or not – for its attempt at recreating pixellated nudity with very little graphics to work with…
For Windows
Casino Tycoon (2001) was Microsoft’s attempt at a casino simulator, allowing you to be in charge of your very own casino – can you keep your gamblers happy?
Hoyle’s Casino Empire (2002) forms part of the very successful (and fun!) Hoyle franchise of casino and gambling-related games. Again, Casino Empire allows you to build and manage your own, with the option of several casino locations.
Casino Inc. (2003) is great for lovers of strategy and tycoon-themed games like Zoo Tycoon or Rollercoaster Tycoon; released in 2003, the game allows you to set-up and run your own casino in the ‘70s. Check out some game-play videos or get the game from Steam.
Hoyle Casino has appeared in several incarnations including in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2011: These allow you to be on the player’s end of the casino, and their card, casino and slot machine games are a hell of a lot of fun – with more than decent graphics.
Zynga Poker is played primarily online through your browser or downloaded for mobile; no, it’s not downloadable, but it gives you the feel of a real poker game in a casino without having to blow your money – including the ‘round the table banter, which makes it worth being on this list!
Bicycle Casino Games is a bit of an obscure title, though definitely worth playing if you can find it; according to its blurb on Gamespot, it was released in 2001 and features a total of seventeen different casino game simulations.
William Hill Poker is currently available for Windows PC and MAC. It is free and downloadable at their website http://poker.williamhill.com/. Once you download and install it, you can register and deposit right away. They offer a wide selection of different poker games, bonuses and promotions. They also have a customer service available 24/7 to assist you.
